About the artwork
This painting was inspired by a meeting that happened far from any shore — in the middle of the Pacific Ocean during my round-the-world journey. There I met Tendai, a woman from Africa with whom I spoke for hours. Despite our different countries, cultures, and life paths, it quickly became clear that we perceive the world in a strikingly similar way.
In the painting, Tendai is surrounded by two animals she loves — a tiger and a black mamba. Both represent the raw, living power of nature. The snake, often feared, appears here as something dignified and beautiful. The waves carry a double meaning: the Pacific Ocean where we met, and the element of life itself — deep, powerful, and constantly in motion.
