About the artwork
The idea came in the middle of the Pacific Ocean during a long open-water crossing on my round-the-world journey. We were far from any shore, days away from land — and somehow fresh strawberries appeared on board. I smiled and thought: it must be the Kraken. Not a monster, but a quiet ally of the deep — powerful enough to bring gifts across the ocean.
In this painting, a girl meets the creature others fear and discovers tenderness instead. The Kraken, crowned with a halo, becomes a symbol of a world that can be wild and mysterious, yet unexpectedly kind.
