About the artwork
This image was born in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. I came across a whale skeleton unexpectedly — simply in someone’s courtyard. It was strange and beautiful: such a vast, ancient form was not in a museum and not in the sea. What struck me was how, even after life has disappeared, something astonishingly strong remains: line, structure, the memory of movement. In those ribs, there was both a sense of scale and time.

This painting is about how what we have lived through can hold us rather than break us. The whale skeleton becomes an image of memory that continues to support. It flies as an independent being, and its ribs gently hold the girl, turning into a space of protection and flight. There is no heaviness of the past here — only its transformed strength: what has been lived no longer pulls downward, but becomes an inner framework. The figure of the girl is intentionally deprived of specific identity — an open image in which the viewer can recognize themselves: a state in which even fragility and vulnerability become part of inner resilience.

Why collectors respond to this work
This painting belongs to Aleksandra Koblova’s biophilic magical realism series, exploring calm, trust, and the quiet bond between humans and animals. Her works are collected internationally for their rare emotional stillness and restorative atmosphere.

Curatorial сontext
Koblova’s work reflects a growing shift in contemporary art toward a more-than-human perspective, where humans and animals are no longer separated by hierarchy but exist within a shared emotional ecosystem.

Her paintings propose a language of radical tenderness and the generation of joy — where softness, trust, and quiet happiness become meaningful gestures in response to the overstimulation of contemporary life.

Within this context, biophilic imagery functions not simply as depiction of nature, but as a visual space of restoration, emotional balance, and renewed connection with the living world.

Biophilic effect
Nature-based imagery has been shown to support emotional restoration and reduce stress. Artworks featuring animals, water, and open natural spaces help the nervous system shift into a restorative state.
This painting brings that biophilic calm into a living space.
