About the artwork
This image was born in Singapore during an evening bike ride. My husband and I were cycling through the city when we suddenly heard something large splashing in a pond. When we came closer, we saw something we had never expected: giant otters. They were swimming against the backdrop of the city’s night skyline. There was something very precise in that moment: even in a vast, technological, fast-moving city, there is still room for tenderness.

This painting is about intimacy as a form of inner support. Two giant otters become an image of care, closeness, and safe contact. The figures of the couple in the center are intentionally deprived of specific identity. They are not only the artist and her husband, but an image of any two people between whom there is trust, warmth, and a sense of home.

Why collectors respond to this work
This painting belongs to Aleksandra Koblova’s biophilic magical realism series, exploring calm, trust, and the quiet bond between humans and animals. Her works are collected internationally for their rare emotional stillness and restorative atmosphere.

Curatorial сontext
Koblova’s work reflects a growing shift in contemporary art toward a more-than-human perspective, where humans and animals are no longer separated by hierarchy but exist within a shared emotional ecosystem.

Her paintings propose a language of radical tenderness and the generation of joy — where softness, trust, and quiet happiness become meaningful gestures in response to the overstimulation of contemporary life.

Within this context, biophilic imagery functions not simply as depiction of nature, but as a visual space of restoration, emotional balance, and renewed connection with the living world.

Biophilic effect
Nature-based imagery has been shown to support emotional restoration and reduce stress. Artworks featuring animals, water, and open natural spaces help the nervous system shift into a restorative state.
This painting brings that biophilic calm into a living space.
